Children Doing Philosophy (CDP) uses the power of philosophy, story-telling, age appropriate discussion, and physical movement to stimulate critical thinking and ethical inquiry in students of varying ages. Philosophy is generally regarded as the “love of wisdom.” Our organization collaborates with schools, parents, daycares, libraries, and any other entity or location where education and children are present. While our organization will solicit these institutions and form relationships, we encourage the public to interact with us and find new spaces for us to expand our project.
Children enrolled in these programs have improved scores on reading and mathematics,[1] are more confident in speaking, have improved listening skills, and improved self-esteem. It is our institution’s belief that the inquisitive nature of the child should be nurtured using the tools available to us in the field of philosophy and the humanities.
Parents interested in fostering critical and ethical thought in their child should find us and work with us. With philosophy being introduced to students typically only in late high school and college, if not at all, it is our duty to introduce this form of inquiry to children at a young age so that they are given an opportunity to express themselves in a meaningful way that could forever change their life.
